The obverse (front) of the coin features the head of the nymph Arethusa, who was associated with the freshwater spring on the island of Ortygia in Syracuse. The inscription around her head is "ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ" (SYRAKOSION), which translates to "of the Syracusans". 
The reverse (back) depicts a  victorious horseman. 
The coin is a significant example of ancient Greek numismatics, known for its artistic and detailed design.
